Carcassonne Expansion 5: Abbey and Mayor

The fifth major expansion for Carcassonne, Abbey & Mayor, offers a fresh gaming experience. It comes with 3 new wooden piece types, 6 abbey tiles, and 12 landscape tiles. Abbey tiles work like cloisters but don't need to match adjacent tiles. When placed, they can complete nearby features. Mayors can only be placed in cities, and their strength depends on the number of pennants in the city. Barns let players score fields during the game, not just at the end. Wagons can be placed on roads, cities, or cloisters and move to an adjacent open feature when their current one is finished.

To play with this expansion, first add the new tiles and wooden pieces to the Carcassonne game. When placing abbey tiles, remember they don't have to match adjacent tiles and can complete adjacent features right away. Place mayors only in cities and calculate their strength based on the pennants in that city. Use barns to score fields during the game. Wagons can be put on roads, cities, or cloisters. When the feature they're on is completed, move them to an adjacent open feature. Keep the wooden pieces away from moisture to prevent damage. Store the tiles in a dry and cool place to avoid warping.
